Timeline

The following is a composite timeline of all Red Faction games.

2050

• The Ultor Corporation starts colonizing Mars.
• Parker is born.

2067

• The Ultor Corporation launches the MASTers expedition, discovering a hibernating alien species underneath the surface of Mars. Ultor's head scientist Axel Capek orders the shaft leading to the caverns where the aliens reside to be sealed, preventing the aliens from reaching the surface. Capek uses the expedition's findings to create his own manipulated version of the alien species.

2075

• Eos, a miner, establishes the Red Faction after attempts to negotiate improved living and working conditions in Ultor mines fail. The group turns to sabotage, propaganda, and prepares an insurrection.
• An altercation between a corporate guard and a miner in mine M4 escalates, becoming the flashpoint for the First Martian Revolution.
  • Axel Capek releases his genetically-engineered Reapers to fight the Red Faction.
  • Parker, a Red Faction insurgent, infiltrates an Ultor base and abducts Richard Gryphon, an Ultor executive, to gain intel on Ultor operations. to fellow Red Faction soldiers. The information leads him to the secret Nanotech Labs beneath Mars.
• Head Researcher Axel Capek, responsible for human experiments on miners, is mortally wounded by Parker in the Ultor Nanotech Labs. Eos intervenes before Parker can kill him, acquiring a cure for the Plague spreading among miners.
  • Ultor security backed by Masako PMC mercenaries eventually force the Reds back and into hiding. Parker sends out a distress signal, asking the Earth Defense Force to intervene, and subsequently destroys the orbital defense network hub that would otherwise have destroyed the arriving dropships.
  • Colonel Masako is killed by Parker, shortly before the EDF arrives in force.
• The Earth Defence Force deploys on Mars, aiding the Red Faction. Ultor forces surrender or flee into the wilderness. Remnants of Ultor scientific operations on Mars eventually become known as the Marauders, developing their own language and culture, which conceals a wealth of knowledge they meticulously preserve.
• Eos is founded.

2080

• The Commonwealth Civil War breaks out after Chancellor Victor Sopot attempts to eliminate his Nano-augmented operatives. After Sopot is killed, Alias is betrayed by Crate Molov, who assumes the role of Chancellor. Alias fights back, killing his fellow crewmates who sided with Sopot after facing a choice between death or life on the run.

2084

• Samanya is born on May 11 as the younger sister of Vasha.

2086

• Alec Mason is born on July 10 and is the brother of Daniel Mason.

2116

• Alec Mason is arrested during Abuja Labor Riot.

2117

• The Earth Defence Force steps up the exploitation of Martian resources to prop up the failing economy and society of Earth. It quickly becomes another occupying force, protecting corporations as they brutally press colonists to extract the wealth of Mars. The Red Faction is founded once again by Hugo Davies.
• The Marauders clash with the EDF for the first time in a large-scale battle, vying for control over Mariner Valley.
• The Marauder leader, Vasha, is taken captive by the EDF, and is eventually rescued by her sister Samanya. Colonel Saul Marius, leading the EDF forces in Mariner Valley, is killed in the process.
• The leaders of the Red Faction, Hugo Davies, and Daniel Mason are rescued by Samanya from an EDF prison. The three become the core of the Red Faction leadership, preparing a rebellion against the EDF.

2125

• The Second Martian Revolution begins in earnest after the arrival of Alec Mason on Mars and his Daniel Mason's death at the hands of an EDF pilot.
• The revolution spreads across Mars, starting with the liberation of Parker (sector). The Red Faction eventually manages to abduct Colonel Joseph Broga and interrogate him to reveal weaknesses in the Free Fire Zone.
• After Broga's death, the EDF retaliates with overwhelming force. Hugo Davies, Jon Kepler and Carmen Availa are killed in the crackdown, as the Red Faction's Badlands safehouse comes under bombardment from EDF bombers.
• Samanya and Alec Mason reach out to the Marauders, forming an alliance of convenience against the EDF. Material and technological support from the Marauders becomes instrumental to the push into Eos.
• A joint insurgent offensive attacks the EDF Central Command, obliterating the nexus of EDF command and control network. The Mars garrison is routed and retreats, awaiting the arrival of EDS Hydra, with its firepower and reinforcements..
• The Hydra is destroyed by the Red Faction as it enters Martian orbit, using a salvaged missile infused with Nano Forge nanites. The missile is delivered into orbit through an accelerator atop Mount Vogel. General Roth is killed in a last-ditch attempt to prevent the Reds from using the accelerator. The Hydra is lost with all hands, left in a decaying orbit. The Second Martian Revolution ends in victory, and Mars is divided into territories of the Red Faction and the Marauders.

2130

• Samanya was killed in a raid by the secret White Faction. Her daughter, Lyra, was abducted but her son, Jake, escaped.

2150

• The wreck of the E.D.S. Hydra crashes into Bradbury Canyon. A team of Red Faction soldiers is sent to examine the wreckage for any valuable technology, but the White Faction steals the ship's "Firework" before the Red Faction can retake it. A second, scaled-down Hydra is built around the weapon to allow it to be deployed against the Red Faction.
• Jake & Alec Mason, with the help of two marauders named Corvallis & Leonid, manage to save Lyra from the White Faction. Alec later sacrifices himself by ramming a shuttle into the dreadnought before it could destroy the Terraformer and render Mars uninhabitable.

2170

• Adam Hale leads a unit of Marauder Cultists to attack the Terraformer. Despite an army of Red Faction soldiers and Darius Mason defending the Terraformer, Hale was able to plant a bomb and destroy the Terraformer, leaving the surface of Mars uninhabitable.

2175

• Darius retires from the Red Faction, becoming a mercenary. He accepts a request from an unknown miner to go out and try to open the seal an the ancient temple. While going deeper and deeper. Suddenly, he discoverers that those miners are Cultists disguised to trick him for open the infrastructure to release the Alien ever since before the First Red Faction Uprising. Thus, triggering the Plague Armageddon that almost destroys the entire Red Planet.
• A skirmish at the Terraformer occurs and Darius Mason manages to repair the Terraformer and eradicate the Plague once and for all.
