Samanya (2084 - 2130) is a Marauder and the younger sister of their leader Vasha. Samanya is the main protagonist of Demons of the Badlands, and the deuteragonist of Red Faction: Guerrilla. She is later a high-ranking member of the Red Faction, where she meets her future husband Alec Mason. No longer able to stand their self-destructive rage and complete disregard for all other life on Mars, she leaves the Marauders during the Battle of Mariner Valley, freeing Hugo Davies and Daniel Mason from an EDF prison camp.
Together, the three resurrect the Red Faction, which has battled the Ultor Corporation half-a-century earlier, to challenge the Earth Defence Force. Sam is a gifted technician, fashioning improvised weapons from scrap, and a key member of the insurgency. Unfortunately, Daniel Mason is later identified by the EDF and killed on the very same day his brother, Alec Mason, arrives on Mars from Earth. Alec is forced by circumstance to join the rebels, but comes to devote himself to their cause - and together they free the sectors of Parker, Dust, the Badlands, Oasis and Eos.
After the destruction of the E.D.S. Hydra, the two marry having several children including Jake Mason and Lyra Mason. She is ultimately killed by EDF Loyalist forces, then known as the White Faction, when they assault her and Mason's home.
History[]
Early life[]
Samanya and her sister Vasha are Martian-born members of the Marauders, reclusive bitter warrior people descended from the Ultor Corporation. After her elder sister rose to the position of chieftain of the Marauders, she set them all on a warpath against the Outlanders - EDF and colonists - despite the odds. Despite her reservations, Samanya followed Vasha's orders out of a sense of duty. When Vasha was captured during the Battle of Mariner Valley in 2117, Samanya immediately launched a rescue to save her sister and prevent a public execution.
The whole thing turned out to be a trap. After narrowly fighting their way out of the canyon, Vasha decided to exact revenge on the EDF. She ordered Samanya to assassinate the EDF commander for Mariner Valley, Saul Marius. Despite misgivings, Samanya attacks the canyon outpost and slays Marius. As expected, the EDF only intensified its attacks, causing Vasha to follow up with an ambitious attack on the EDF headquarters in Mariner Valley. By wiping out the troops to the last man, she hoped to dissuade EDF from ever attempting a reconquest.
Samanya was ordered to lead the charge, but bitterly protested when Vasha orders the deaths of colonists interned at the concentration camp in the base. Vasha relented and permitted Samanya to save them. During the rescue, however, she changed her mind and ordered a full-out attack by the main Marauder force. Samanya was caught in the crossfire, considered expendable by her sister. After rescuing Dan Mason and Hugo Davies from the camp, the three successfully evaded both the EDF and the Marauders, with Samanya joining them in reviving the Red Faction against the EDF.
Time in the Red Faction[]
As a member of the Faction, Samanya put her Ultor knowledge and aptitude to work. A capable scientist, engineer, and warrior, she quickly made the top of EDF's Most Wanted list. She was already wanted as a Marauder since January 25, 2109, but her membership in the Faction made her all the more threatening. Listed as a level 6 threat, she nonetheless managed to evade EDF for nearly a decade, while building up a steady network of connections on the black market and converting mining tools to implements of war.
After Daniel Mason's death and the recruiting of Alec Mason for the cause, she focused on providing technical support and tapping her contacts as the insurgency gained momentum. Her most important contribution was identifying and harnessing the power of the Nano Forge, recovered by Mason from the ruins of Capek's old laboratory in the Badlands. She also rallied the Faction after the devastating crackdown by Gen. Bertram Roth, and forged an alliance with the Marauders, mending the divide between her and her sister. Ultimately, it was her technological expertise that allowed the Faction/Marauder alliance to win the day: The Nano Forge was used to infuse a guided missile salvaged from EDF's stores, which was then launched at the EDS Hydra, destroying the dreadnought in orbit.
Later life and death[]
She and Mason later settled down, with Samanya giving birth to two children: Jake and Lyra. Unfortunately, Samanya was killed in 2130 in a raid by the White Faction. Jake was saved by the Reds, but Lyra was abducted and raised as an EDF loyalist by the remnants. Samanya's death ensured that no peaceful resolution would be possible.
Legacy[]
Sam created S.A.M and kept it safe in her own personal secret location. Before passing it to her son and finally to Darius for the rest of his life as honourable gift to carry out the pride of her family.
Trivia[]
- Her name, Samanya, is Bantu, and she said she chose the name herself, so she may have been born with a different name, or Marauder children are allowed to choose their own names.
- Samanya and Vasha are the only characters who speak with a (faked) British accent.
- During cutscenes, her hair will change from red to blonde. That's because when she joined the Colonists, her original Marauder hairstyle remained unchanged in-game out of the DLC Demons of the Badlands while in cutscenes it revealed her blonde hair color so the Colonists won't know her real nature until the end.
