Red Faction is a series of science-fiction shooter video games developed by Volition. and published by THQ. Originating in 2001, the Red Faction games have spanned Windows, Mac, and many consoles, including the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The franchise which primarily focuses on Mars, with the occasional spotlight for Earth. The key element has been destruction since the beginning, which came to fruition through the use of the GeoMod engine. Rebellion against dictatorships plays a big part in the series, as Ultor, Sopot and the EDF all display signs of a typical dictatorship, whose rule is filled with corruption and dark secrets since the games inception in 2001. The success of the first games release has spawned 3 sequels, comic books, and a television movie pilot.
Following disappointing sales and reviews of Red Faction: Armageddon THQ executives announced the series was being shelved to focus on other IPs, following THQ's collapse, the Franchise was brought by Nordic Games and they had expressed interest in continuing the Saga, however, Volition.inc (the Original Developer) was bought by Deep Silver, Volition itself claimed that the franchise is in good hands.

The logo for the game series has been a hand and hammer, which can be seen on the covers of Red Faction and Red Faction: Guerrilla (The first game cover shows a pickaxe instead of the taticular Maul). The cover of Red Faction II, shows an arm and a rifle in the hand of someone. Red Faction: Armageddon abandons this symbol with just Darius Mason on the cover. However it had already stated, Volition are no longer interested to continue the Red Faction series.
