The EDF Pistol is the basic sidearm for Earth Defence Force soldiers in the field during the Second Martian Revolution.
Description[]
The weapon is compact and accurate, so although not particularly powerful, fast-firing or hard-hitting, it carries a fair amount of ammo and can be used effectively at range with careful aim. The Pistol is mostly used by EDF Grunts and Guerrillas in the first half of the game. However the pistol saw very limited use after the Red Faction liberated the Free Fire Zone and started to advance towards Eos. During the plauge armageddon, Kara used the EDF Pistol as her preferred sidearm despite the pistol being 50 years old.
Usage[]
As with most pistols, this one is a good backup weapon. Particularly useful in the early game, notably hostage rescue missions as you are unlikely to accidentally kill a hostage if you were to miss due to the low damage. It is outclassed by other weapons like the enforcer and the peacekeeper. Headshots are worth attempting, and this weapon can be used for high accuracy work before the sniper rifles are available, although situations the normal assault rifle can't handle will be rare.
Trivia[]
• this is an unusual design for a pistol, being some combination of the SIG Sauer P220 series and a kriss vector. The large open trigger guard constituted by the frame and the grip would be a safety concern.
• if you look close, the EDF pistol has night sights
• the odd design is responsible for a shorter barrel, and thus the lower damage seen in-game. How this weapon would cycle is unclear because there isn't room for the vector's chain-like bolt, and the slide doesn't appear to move.
