Daniel Mason (died 2125) is a member of the Red Faction during the Second Martian Revolution. He is the brother of Alec Mason, who would lead the Red Faction to victory later during the Revolution.
Biography[]
Daniel Mason immigrated to Mars in 2119, quickly learning about the EDF's brutality on the Red Planet. He put his demolitions talents to better use than mining, and joined the Red Faction.[1] He provided explosives used in the attack on the detention center that freed Hugo Davies, putting him on the EDF's kill list. The EDF did, in fact, manage to locate and arrest him, resulting in brief internment at the Mariner Valley prison facilities. He and Davies were freed by Samanya, a rebellious Marauder who wished for cooperation between the miners and the Marauders. She was recruited shortly afterwards, providing invaluable technical expertise to the faction.[2]
Daniel subsequently convinced his brother, Alec Mason, to immigrate to Mars. A veteran of labor riots, Alec would have been an excellent asset for the Faction. Dan tried to gently nudge his brother towards joining the faction, after picking him up from immigration and taking him on their first salvage operation. The older Mason inadvertently delivered a much bigger nudge, as the EDF shadowed the two and a gunship, AAX-578, attacked Dan, killing him on the spot. Faced with arrest and likely execution upon return to Dan's quarters, Alec took up his sledgehammer and struck down an EDF officer about to arrest him. Thus, Dan delivered his brother to the Red Faction, just not in the way he wanted.[1]

- If you kill Dan during the beginning of the game, an easter egg pops up saying "WTF!?? YOU KILLED YOUR BROTHER!!!"
